This Area of Learning comprises the subjects of Art and Design, Drama and Music. It provides rich opportunities for developing creativity, allowing children to express their ideas, feelings and interpretations of the world through pictures, sound, drama and dance.  At Macosquin we believe the arts are a fundamental part of the Curriculum.  Through experiencing the arts, children develop their creativity, self-esteem and confidence.

As well as providing a creative and enriched Arts curriculum, we also provide a range of exciting after-school activities for children.  Staff provide a range of clubs including many that are arts based (choir, orchestra, stitch and sew, make and bake, speech and drama).  Many pupils also take part at local Festivals which encourages their interest in this creative area.  We believe the value of partnerships with Arts organisations demonstrate excellence and raise awareness of opportunities and expectations in The Arts.  The links benefit:

  • Curriculum development
  • Community links
  • Staff development
  • Children's creative achievements
  • The profile of The Arts

We ensure effective partnerships cover a range of Art forms including those of other cultures, venues and activities.  Our partnerships offer a range of learning opportunities and we are always looking for new ones.  Children are able to experience these through:

  • Visiting artists and musicians
  • Tuition from experienced musicians
  • Participating in local music festivals
  • Plays, theatre company visits and workshops
  • Community Art project with local schools
