Roots of Empathy in P1

10th Oct 2024

🌟Roots of Empathy🌟

This morning our Primary One classroom was filled with excitement and warmth as we welcomed baby Lucia and her mummy for our first Roots of Empathy family visit. The children were thrilled to meet baby Lucia, and their empathy shone brightly throughout the lesson.

From the moment baby Lucia arrived, the children were captivated! They watched in awe as she visually tracked the colourful toys we presented to her. Her eyes followed the movements with curiosity and delight, sparking happiness among the children.

When we sang to baby Lucia, her face lit up and she was interested in what we were doing. The children sang softly and sweetly, creating a soothing atmosphere that baby Lucia clearly enjoyed. It was heartwarming to see how much care and attention the children gave to ensure baby Lucia felt comfortable and happy.

As the lesson progressed, baby Lucia began to show signs of tiredness. By the end of our time together, she was very sleepy, gently drifting off in her mummy’s arms. The children observed this with understanding and empathy, recognising the importance of rest for her well-being.

This visit was not only a wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with baby Lucia but also a meaningful way to celebrate World Mental Health Day. By fostering empathy and emotional awareness, we are nurturing the mental health of our pupils. Understanding and caring for others, as they did for baby Lucia, is a crucial part of building a compassionate and mentally healthy community.
