Mile A Day
Macosquin Primary School Mile-a-Day Challenge
Over the past term Macosquin have introduced a new initiative in school which aims to promote a healthy lifestyle to our children. The initiative has been pioneered by St Ninians Primary School in Stirling, Scotland and has gained national recognition as a fantastic way of improving children’s well-being. As well as the physical benefits of exercising once a day there are also benefits to children’s social, emotional and mental well-being as they socialise with their peers during the mile.
Children take 15 minutes each day to walk or run the mile and there is no competitive element to it. As long as children are moving and getting involved then it is a success. The Mile-a-Day Challenge is a brilliant way to keep children active and healthy and the initiative is contributing to our Eco-Schools Healthy Living Action Plan. We started the Mile-a-Day challenge with the KS2 classes but it's successful introduction has led to the KS1 classes now taking part as well!
I have been taking part in the initiative with my class and am feeling the benefits myself! If children wish to run the mile then we do ask that they bring suitable shoes in which to do so.
Thank you for your support.
