Macosquin Primary School

Special Needs

Special Needs provision is provided mainly to facilitate children requiring additional help with literary and numeracy skills. It has two objectives - prevention and remediation. Special Needs provision may take place within the classroom or during short periods when pupils are withdrawn from the class, enabling them to have more individual teaching. Such additional support does not replace classroom teaching - it is supplementary to it. The Special Needs Co-ordinator works closely with the class teacher and, where necessary, outside agencies e.g. Educational Psychology Service and medical professionals, compiling individually-based teaching plans.

Parents are regularly consulted and updated on their children’s progress at each stage of the process in order for any child’s difficulty to be successfully addressed.

A copy of the school’s Special Educational Needs Policy is available by arrangement with the Principal.
