Rugby Match vs Damhead

10th Jun 2016

The P6 and P7 boys played a rugby match against Damhead on the field on Friday 10th June. The match was a huge success with both teams playing some excellent rugby. The boys from Damhead started much quicker than the Macosquin boys and raced into a 3 try lead in the first half. Macosquin were camped on the Damhead try line for the remainder of the half and came agonisingly close to a try but a breakaway try from Damhead with the last play of the half left a lot to be done in the second half.

Macosquin started brilliantly in the second half and again camped themselves on the Damhead line. Unfortunately their final product deserted them as they stretched for the line and Damhead punished them on the counter attack. Some fantastic defence from Macosquin stopped Damhead adding to their lead but they did manage to score again before Macosquin had another chance with the ball. The final whistle was approaching and with the last play of the match Macosquin gathered together in order to score a brilliant team try. Ross Millican took a pass from Benn Hunter and managed to offload to Zac Dealey in the tackle. Zac side stepped two would-be tacklers and went in for the score. It was a well deserved end to a great game!

Before Damhead had to go there was just enough time to have a game of touch rugby with both teams mixing together in order to play. This was a great experience for the boys to mix with their peers from another school and hopefully form some bonds for the next time they cross paths.

The games were played in a brilliant spirit with a competitive and friendly atmosphere being created. The boys did their schools proud! Thank you to those parents who came to watch, it was greatly appreciated.
