Macosquin Primary School
About Us
Welcome to our new school website. Thank you for considering Macosquin
Primary School as a suitable school for your child. This website has been
produced for your benefit and also as a school reference for parents of pupils
already enrolled. I hope it will provide you with some insight into life at
Macosquin Primary School.
The school, which opened in 1967, is situated in the historic village of Macosquin, three miles west of Coleraine. Education in the village dates from as far back as 1824, as indicated in our school crest. The school population has grown in recent years with pupils travelling from a wide geographical area (eg Castleroe, Greenmount, Greenhall Highway, Somerset, Mountsandel, Knocklynn, Grasmere, Aghadowey, Castlerock Road, Ballycairn, Castlerock and Ballymoney).

The current teaching staff includes Principal, Assistant Principal, Senior Teacher for Special Educational Needs, Heads of Key Stage and subject co-ordinators. Such a staffing complement enables us to offer small classes, our present teacher pupil ratio being 1.19. The combination of experience and expertise in the school, together with regular meetings of staff, leadership team and curriculum co-ordinators contribute to the achievement of the school’s management plan. The school secretary, 6 teaching assistants, building supervisor, lunch time supervisory assistants, school meals staff and bus driver complete a team dedicated to the education and welfare of the pupils entrusted to its care.
The current building consists of eight classrooms, a computer
suite, music master class room, library area, an assembly/PE/dining
hall and a canteen. All those in the school community are very
proud of our school - the staff, our pupils and their parents.
We firmly believe that the experiences the children receive at our school are not only most rewarding but also prepare them for the challenges which life may present in the future. We anticipate that parents choosing this school for their child would wish to be closely identified with it and will work in close partnership with the staff to ensure the best possible education for their child. At Macosquin Primary School we aim to provide our pupils with a broad, balanced and challenging education within the framework of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Taking account of the experiences your children bring to the school and, in an atmosphere of mutual care and respect, we endeavour to realise further the personal development of each child.
Pupils are the central focus of our school. Your child will be nurtured and cared for in a happy, supportive environment. It is our hope that all children will be encouraged to develop their full potential in preparation for the transfer to post-primary education.
We look forward to welcoming your child to our school community and to the contribution we, together, can make.
